Sore Throat

Sore throats are caused by many things such as viruses, bacteria, smoking, breathing polluted air, allergies to pet dander, pollens and mold.

To beat a sore throat, make sure you have adequate water as hydration is the key to flushing the bacteria from your system.  Hot water with lemon, honey and cinnamon will help prevent mucus buildup and can be very soothing.

Foods to avoid at this time are sugar because it decreases the white blood cells that help fight off infection, fruit juices for the same reason, caffeine because it is dehydrating and can increase throat pain and dairy because it can be mucus producing causing symptoms to progress.

Ingestion

The amount of oil ingested varies with different oil.  Whether putting then oils in a capsule or drinking them in a liquid.  Here are some options of how to take your oils:

  • take 1 capsule with desired oil 2 times daily
  • put 2-3 drops of oil in a spoonful of maple syrup, coconut oil, milk, etc
  • put desired amount of oil in glass of milk,  ningxia red, or even water
  • place a drop under the tongue 2-6 times a day or as often as needed
  • gargle 4-8 times daily with a a mixture of essential oils and water

Sore throat blend #1 –

  • 2 drops thyme
  • 2 drops cyrpess
  • 1 drop eucalyptus radiata
  • 1 drop peppermint
  • 1 drop myrrh
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Sore throat blend #2 –

  • 5 drops lemon
  • 2 drops eucalyptus globulus
  • 2 drops wintergreen
  • 1 drop peppermint
