Allergies

Allergies are the direct response to so many different situations.  They can be triggered by food, pollen, chemicals, pet dander, dust, insect bites and can affect so many different areas.

Respiratory – wheezing, laboured breathing

Mouth – swelling of the lips or tongue

Digestive Tract – diarrhea, vomiting, cramps

Skin – rashes, bumps

Nose – sneezing, congestion


Food Allergies

Food allergies are much different than food intolerances.  Food allergies involve an immune system reaction, as oppose to food intolerances involve gastrointestinal reactions and are far more common.

Examples

Peanuts – life long allergy due to peanut proteins being targeted by immune system antibodies as a foreign substance.

Dairy – intolerance of pasteurized cow’s milk that causes cramping and diarrhea due to inability to digest lactose (milk sugar) because of lack of the enzyme lactase.

Food allergies are often associated with the following consumptions:

nuts, shellfish, wheat, dairy, egg’s soy


Hay Fever

Hay Fever is an allergic reaction to airborne allergens such as pollen, animal hair, feathers, dust mites, etc.  that cause the release of histamines and inflammation of the nasal passages and sinus related areas.

Symptoms 

Inflammation of the nasal passages, sinuses, and eyelids that cause sneezing, runny nose, wheezing and watery, red itchy eyes.
