Bergamot Essential Oil

Christopher Columbus is believed to have brought Bergamot to Northern Italy from the Canary Islands.  A foundation in traditional Italian medicine.  Bergamot has also been used in the Middle East for hundreds of years for skin condition associated with oily complexion.  It is responsible for the distinct flavour of Earl Grey Tea and in the first t genuine eau do cologne.

The health benefits of Bergamot Essential Oil include assisting with hormonal support, calming, depression, anxiety, insomnia, viral infections (cold sores) and helps in calming.

Antibiotic & Disinfectant: Certain components of the essential oil are antibiotic and a disinfectant.   They inhibit the growth of germs, virus and fungi. They also effectively prohibit infections, including those of the skin.

Analgesic: Bergamot essential oil reduces the feeling of pain in the body. Actually, it stimulates a certain hormone which lessens the sensitivity of nerves to pain. It is very helpful in case of headaches, sprains, and muscle aches.

Relaxant & Sedative: Bergamot essential oil soothes nerves and reduce nervous tension, anxiety and stress,  all of which can help treat ailments with stress such as sleeplessness, high blood pressure, insomnia and depression.

A Few Words of Caution: Bergamot oil must be protected from sunlight, because bergaptene, one of its components, becomes poisonous if exposed to sunlight. That is why the oil should always be stored in dark bottles in dark places. Exposure to sunlight should even be avoided after it is applied or rubbed onto the skin, at least until it absorbs into your skin.
